WHO WE ARE

Atlantic Royal is the largest, fully vertically-integrated mussel farm and processing company in South Africa, with the full value chain (farming, harvesting, processing and marketing) managed internally.

With world-class farming, harvesting, processing, packaging and freezing equipment and the ability to process and freeze raw material 1 hour from harvest, we can ensure the highest quality mussels for the market.

Our philosophy speaks to a product offering that is developed with integrity and ethical company structures and that embraces the values of our customers and society in general. At the core of our business is our focus on food safety, quality, our people and guardianship and protection of our environment.

OUR PRODUCTS

All of our mussels are fully sustainable, sand-free, and grown in the cool pure waters off the West Coast of South Africa. All of our products are produced with top quality natural ingredients. Absolutely no artificial additives or preservatives are ever used.

Our mussels are individually quick frozen (IQF) and vacuum-packed for both the retail and foodservice/wholesale markets.

WHERE WE ARE

Atlantic Royal is situated 1hr30min north of Cape Town, South Africa, in a unique and pristine coastal town called Saldanha on the West Coast. It is the most prolific mussel-growing area in South Africa. The West Coast, along with the cold Benguela Ocean current and the area’s windy conditions, create an upwelling which produces nutrient-rich plankton waters.

FARMING
AND HARVESTING

Recognising and identifying successful farming and harvesting methodologies and systems implemented worldwide, we opted for the longline farming system.

Our cost-effective farming and harvesting methods contribute to our carbon footprint reduction strategy, and provides a grit and sand-free mussel. Because the lines are suspended from the surface of the ocean, it enhances water circulation to promote feeding and increases natural settlement in deep waters with good water flow/circulation and is exposed to the open ocean and rich Benguela eco system of South Africa’s West Coast.
